The Third Game the road goes ever on
Mordor v Gondor
Gathering his small force together Faredor retreats up the road, he has to report to his captain, enemies in Ithilien! Alarum, foes abroad, ‘ware the Southrons! He does not go far before he comes across another worrying sign. Orc spoor! No other folk make such a trampling!
Only a short way down the road the Gondorians spot the orcs on top of a small hill overlooking the road. Leaving the road Faredor and his men creep round behind the Orcs and take cover in some bushes
The Gondorians fire at the Orcs who reply. Both sides are in cover and no one scores a hit.
Burutz and Grabnob leave the hill to cover the flank. They take cover in some bushes.
Both sides fire at each other for about 5-6 turns with no casualties! Burutz and Grabnob return to the hill.
The Gondorians are outnumbered but resign themselves to an attack against the odds
Faredor and Sperred move to the left..
….and are charged by Skarrik, Kracy and Gitzy
Faredor takes out Skarrik! One for the good guys!
Burutz charges down off the hill, the orcs win the combat but are unable to injure the men
Snark
joins the fray
The rest of the Minas Tirth warband break cover and head for the hill
Mablud
and Blurgil charge the hill
Mared drops his bow, draws his sword and rushes in to help
3 warriors of Minas Tirth are injured and must miss the next game. They pick up a warrior with a shield as reinforcements
The Orcs gain a tracker
Ratings Mordor 126
Gondor 99 (78 for next battle)
The Fourth Game
The Fiefdoms of Gondor v The Southron Empire
Baragund stands atop the hill and casts his eyes along the road. There has certainly been a fight here, he muses. A bloodied Gondorian helmet, a battered buckler bearing the red eye of Mordor, a scattering of arrows, the short crooked arrows of Orcs, and the long straight ones used by the men of Minas Tirith, strewn about the place and here and there a vivid splash of blood.
But who was the victor? Friend or foe? And where did they go? No clear tracks can be discerned in the churned earth.
He does not ponder for long however, his keen ears detect the sound of hoof beats and on the road below the hill he spies a rider dressed in garish bright silks, mounted on a small albino pony “Variag!” he cries, his men ready their weapons as more Empire troops emerge from the trees on the road below
And so it begins…
Baragund positions his men behind a wall of rough stone at the Southern end of the hill. They are outnumbered and have limited options.
An arrow whistles past him and clatters harmlessly off the wall, the Variag, Naveed, has opened fire.
Baragund picks up the arrow and looks closely at the thick green ichor smeared on the sharp brass tip-Poison!
The Empire war band marches up to the foot of the hill, ready to charge next turn.
Realising they will get picked off on the hill Baragund decides to attack, maybe if they can kill enough of the enemy at the base of the hill, they can reverse the situation and outnumber the survivors.
“Gondor!!” Melathor takes down the Jakhala, Mula. Garulf wins his duel but is unable to inflict an injury on the heavily armoured Jihalakhan.
Baragund and Eothard are defeated by Dhalmud but are uninjured by the wild Easterling chief.
Baragund’s gambit has not paid off as he would have liked
Xephon, Khabaal and Boko charge into the Gondorians
Khabaal and Eothard lock in combat, neither able to find an advantage
Boko and Dhalmud take down Melathor. Baragund deflects Xephon’s spear, bests him, but cannot cause a wound.
On the hill Naveed charges Meruvin on his albino. Variags are famed for their “cream gene” horses, there’s not a black, white, brown or grey horse in the whole of Khand.
Khabaal takes Eothard down, but the other Fief warriors, Garulf and Baragund win their combats
……….and retreat up the hill
Desperate fighting from the Gondorians wins the combat even though they are outnumbered, but again they are unable to inflict any injuries
“For Gondor” again the brave Fiefers charge into their enemy
To no avail. Naveed taps Meruvin on the head Dhalmud finally topples Baragund, the tall Dol Amrothian fighting to the last.
And then there was one! Somehow in the confusion of the last few minutes Garulf slips away
Victory for the Empire!
After the battle Khabaal's victorious warband are joined by Khalid Fhatoom a Haradrim Noble, heavily armoured on a fine tall battle steed and armed with sword shield and bow
Baragund leads the remnants of his company up the road away, he has to report what has happened. Maybe he can halt this incursion at the bridge ahead where the road crosses a small deep tributary of the Poros.
On the road he meets Dunhold and archer off Morthond and with him Bladruth one of the famous Black Root Vale men,a Ranger of Morthond
